Make Up Look – Inspired By Leighton Meester

Leighton’s skin always looks so naturally flawless so I used the Pore fessionals Base Primer by Benefit to help even out my skin tone and fill in my pores to make them less visible.

The next thing you would think to do to get that flawless looking base is to use a high coverage foundation, but for this look I didn’t use a foundation at all. I know, shocking. I actually used a concealer on the problem areas of my skin and the one I used was the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer. This concealer has high coverage for a drugstore product but it worked wonders for that natural flawless skin look. This concealer, when blended, is a perfect match for my skin tone so it looks like I’m not wearing anything on my base at all. The brush i used to blend the concealer in was the Cheek Brush by Real Techniques. I’m sorry if me not using the right brushes for things offends any of you. I just use what brushes work for my skin when applying certain products. This brush happens to be perfect for applying concealer/foundation as its not harsh and doesn’t make your product go streaky on the skin, which is what I find happens when I use a stippling brush.

The next thing I did was set the base with my all time favourite powder, which is the NYX HD Finishing Translucent Powder. I have super oily skin so this powder takes a lot of that away but still makes me look dewy as I am not a fan of having overly matte skin. Leighton’s skin looks flawless and dewy so it is the perfect product to help achieve her look. The brush I used to do this was the Blush Brush by Real Techniques as this is the perfect shape to powder under my eyes and the sides of my nose.

After that, I took a blush by Zoeva called “He Loves Me, Maybe” which is a subtle pink colour and I used the Multi-task Brush by Real Techniques to make my cheeks healthy and rosy just like Leighton in the photo.

For brows I just filled my brows in the way I always do them with the NYX Micro Brow Pencil in the shade Ash Brown as everybody has their own brow shape and the way they like to do them so I thought i’d keep them the same as how I have them every day.

Next I put on some mascara. I used the Benefit Roller Lash as it has a small, thin wand to curl your lashes right up from the root, to A) make them curlier and B) give the illusion of wearing eyeliner without the hassle of messing it up. Just don’t stab yourself in the eye with the wand, I’ve done that on many occasions.

The next thing I did was take a small amount of bronzer around the outside of my face (forehead, chin etc.). Even though I don’t think Leighton is wearing any, I still like to bronze. It’s like my statement product. For this I used a big fluffy brush by Isabella Scott which I purchased at Homesense.

The final thing I did to get that bold red lip, I used a lip palette. This was sent to me by mistake, however it is the best product I have ever used to get a red lip and the edges not looking to harsh and over drawn. The palette I used was the L’Oreal Color Riche Lip Palette in Rouge. I applied it to my lips using a thin and flat brush from a company called Royal and Langnickel. The product is so creamy and doesn’t transfer that much. It doesn’t make the outline of my lips look harsh when i use this product and the pigment is amazing too. Better than any red lipstick I have ever tried.

How I Remove My Makeup + Additional Steps

Step 1:

I take the Bioderma Micellar Water on a couple of cotton pads and I gently wipe away the product on my eyes and my eyebrows, as I find that if i just use water then I don’t get all of the product off and cleanser sting your eyes.

Step 2:

I then rinse my face in warm water and apply the Sukin Cream Cleanser, lathering it into the skin to take up all of the base make up on my skin. Then I wash it off with warm water on a micro-fiber face cloth.

Step 3:

I then rinse my face again with warm water to open up my pores and I use the Origins Frothy Face Wash to cleanse my face and make sure my skin is completely clean. I then rinse my skin one last time using cold water to close the pores.

Step 4:

I moisturise my skin using the Alpha H Essential Hydration Cream.

ADDITIONAL STEPS (IF I FALL ASLEEP WITH MAKE UP ON THE NIGHT BEFORE)

I think we are all pretty guilty of falling asleep with our make up on at least once, if you haven’t then good on you for being so efficient!

Step 3 changes:

The next day, instead of using the Origins face wash, I use the L’Oreal Purity Clay Mask to get right into my pores to dig out all of the residue from the make up that may have sunk into my skin. I wash the mask off also using a micro-fiber face cloth.

Step 4 changes:

I change moisturiser for a few days to the Sukin Facial Moisturiser as it has natural ingrediants which wont be harsh on the skin and can really help correct the damage.

Long Lasting Sparkly Nails

PicsArt_06-04-01.40.21.jpg

I’m not the type of person to spend loads of money on my nails, although I do love to make my nails look presentable. I am partial to a sparkly nail as they look pretty with everything you wear. At the moment I’ve been loving a gold sparkly nail so I’m going to show you what I have been using to get these nails.

The first thing I do is wash my hands with just whatever hand wash I have at the time and I feel like my nail polish lasts longer if I do that first.

Next I use my most loved base coat which is by Rimmel London and it’s a 2 in 1 base coat and top coat which is a bargain. I believe this was between the £5 – £6 mark.

PicsArt_06-04-01.41.46

The third thing I do, is apply one coat of a coloured nail polish that matches the colour of the glitter polish that I will be applying on top. So fortunately, the polish and the glitter came as a set. They were from the Barry M Aquarium Collection.

PicsArt_06-04-01.41.02

Once i’ve put a layer of the gold polish on, I will add a few coats of the glitter as it can be very sparse on the first coat. Even if it does still look spars after a few coats, it doesn’t matter because the gold colour underneath will blend it all together.

PicsArt_06-04-01.40.42.jpg

Then finally, I will finish with a final coat of the Rimmel top coat to seal it all in.

My Way of Getting Natural Looking Brows

PicsArt_06-02-04.44.20 - Edited

Firstly, I just want to say a massive thank you for 100 followers and to thank everyone that has read, commented and liked my posts!

When I first started wearing make up, I never used to fill in or even shape my eyebrows. Looking back on old pictures, I realised that was a massive mistake. Growing up, I had always had spars brows. The outer part of my brow was so light and spars that it looked like I only had half a brow….HOW EMBARRASSING!

I used to fill in my brows with a pomade, which was an amazing shade compared to my brows, however it looked like I had block eyebrows. They were like slugs. So I went back to the shops and found the NYX Micro Brow Pencil (Ash Brown) £8.  This product is amazing because its a thin pencil and helps to lightly draw strokes to replicate natural brow hairs. It never makes my brows look like slugs hehe. They look full and natural at the same time. I often use a similar style pencil by Zoeeva.

What I do after that, is I use the Rimmel Brow This Way (Sculpting Kit) £3. I use the powdery side and a very small angled brush to very faintly mimic the inner part of my brows so that it creates that natural gradient within the brow.

Favourites So Far, This Year: Hair Care Edition

Staring off with shampoo. My hair is prone to dandruff. Having dark hair, it shows up a terrible amount and with that I tend to get an itchy scalp. For any of you that share the same problem, then I highly recommend the brand Head and Shoulders. I became a lover of the Anti-dandruff shampoo; however, it didn’t stop the itchy scalp I’d get after 2 days of not washing. Until I discovered the Head and Shoulders Itchy Scalp Shampoo. Since discovering this shampoo my scalp and hair couldn’t be better. My scalp no longer feels itchy at all, even 2 days after washing and it still tackles the dandruff. This product is a game changer for me.

PicsArt_05-31-02.55.36

Next I’d like to talk about the conditioner I’ve been using. I was never really a fan of TRESemme products but now some of them are in my main hair care routine, including their nourishing and replenishing conditioner with coconut milk and aloe vera. This conditioner leaves my hair feeling silky smooth and gives it a beautiful shine that lasts until the next time I wash my hair. Aloe vera is good for skin that has broken away (peeling from sun burn), so with the shampoo I use, it gives my scalp a strong hold against dandruff. For the best results, leave the conditioner to sit in your hair for at least 3-5 mins and if you have longer then go for it.

PicsArt_05-31-02.52.19

My hair is very thick and frizzy at the ends which I do not like. My sister recommended an oil/serum to put on the ends after I shampoo and condition. The one that had the best views was the John Frieda Frizz Ease (Original). You apply to wet hair and then dry your hair as normal whether that be letting it air dry or by using a hair dryer. For my thick and frizzy hair, I really notice a difference, it’s definitely tamer now than it was before; however, I have to use about 8 pumps to get this result and these bottles are not big at all which is disappointing.

PicsArt_05-31-02.48.54.jpg

I am highly partial to curling my hair a lot, which I know is very bad for my hair but I prefer my hair curly. Before I begin curling I spray the TRESemme Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Spray. This spray doesn’t make your hair wet or sticky, it glides through and dries into the hair quickly. It says it is a shine spray and I can happily say that my hair is still super shiny even after putting heat to it. This spray is often on special off which is a bonus.
